Tandjung Sari is a timeless beauty. In the 1960s, a Dutch-Indonesian artist entrepreneur Wija Wawo-Runtu purchased a plot of land on Sanur beach, Bali and built a small home with his wife. This family house on the beach has developed into Bali’s pioneer boutique resort adored by many high profile individuals for its simplicity mixed with elegancy – rustic local architecture embellished with antiques lush tropical gardens located at coastlines and superb traditional Indonesian dishes most importantly, easy-going nature of Wawo-Runtus who were themselves an international hub of friends and entertained exceptionally well.
Tandjung Sari is an artisan hotel. The resort’s “rooms” are individual cottages, which are commonly called bungalows, and they are enclosed by walled gardens.
The bungalows are positioned so discreetly throughout the area, were beautifully designed mainly from a hand sketch of its founder, Wija Wawo-Runtu and constructed on-site by local artisans working in harmony with nature. The handmade aspect of this hotel is felt not just through its architecture but also through its interiors and accessories.
