HOSHINOYA Bali: Sustainable Luxury and Balinese Harmony

HOSHINOYA Bali is a new concept of luxury accommodation where sustainability is not an afterthought but at the core of the resort’s operations. This luxury hotel is a triumph of the Balinese Hindu philosophy of Tri Hita Karana – the harmonisation of people, nature and the Gods – and is set in Bali’s eastern region of Ubud, surrounded by three hectares of rainforests, rice fields and temples. HOSHINOYA Bali combines Japanese sophistication with the authenticity of local Balinese culture, taking guests on a journey through the traditions that are lived out in daily life.

HOSHINOYA Bali aspires to a unique concept of luxury accommodation with sustainability at the core of the resort’s operations.

People and Community Peace

HOSHINOYA Bali is dedicated to working closely with the local Balinese community, particularly the artisans of the region, to help promote the rich heritage of the region. You can witness the collaboration through a range of cultural experiences such as the Tenun Cagcag Traditional Weaving Tour where guests can learn about local Balinese traditions and the art of weaving.

HOSHINOYA Bali also supports the local community development with a monthly cleaning project held in the area. The resort’s community-based tourism activities are Banjar Walking Tour and Ubud Rice Field Walking, giving guests the opportunity to experience authentic local Bali and explore the local landscape, rice fields and lifestyle of the local community.

Respecting NatureResponsible Water Management

Bali is a water-rich island and the artful manipulation of water is the heart of the local Balinese culture, and it is the basis of natural life. HOSHINOYA Bali’s respect for the local water management system called Subak system is a reflection of its sustainability commitment. Subak is a UNESCO World Heritage, an ancient irrigation system that has sustained the rice growing culture of Bali for more than a thousand years.

Likewise, water is the central theme at HOSHINOYA Bali, with water from the Pakerisan river flowing through the resort. Notably, the resort’s eco-conscious approach to luxury hospitality and sustainable development includes local water bodies.

Guests can also join local culinary experiences with the resort’s Market Tour and Cooking Class where they will visit local markets and discover traditional Balinese cuisine and its ingredients.

Bridging Guests To Balinese Spiritual Traditions

The third pillar of Balinese Tri Hita Karana is the harmony between the people and the Gods. The Hindu community in Bali is very spiritual and the local is very passionate for their religion. Hence, HOSHINOYA Bali provides unique cultural experiences that enable the guests to connect to Bali’s spiritual side. One such example is the Balinese Crafts Workshop offered at the hotel, where the guests can learn how to make Canang Sari, a traditional offering which is an integral part of the daily life of Balinese Hindus.

Locals believe that offerings of Canang Sari should be done every morning and evening to maintain the harmony of the Gods and human beings. Likewise, during the Nyepi festival, Bali’s Day of Silence, the resort offers its guests a rare opportunity to join locals in learning about Balinese Hinduism, and its vibrant Ogoh-Ogoh celebrations around the region of Ubud in particular.

The Beautiful Natural Landscapes A Luxury Villa Hotel Resort

HOSHINOYA Bali offers a collection of residential-style accommodations for discerning guests who want to enjoy the luxury of a private villa with the convenience of a luxury hotel. The semi-private pools and private poolside lounges are set amongst lush natural vegetation and views of the surrounding rainforests to give a unique immersive experience. The architecture of the resort is a thoughtful blend of Japanese minimalism and Balinese culture. Elaborate woodwork, hanging traditional batik lamps and other local Balinese artefacts leave a lasting impression on the hotel’s guests. An example of this is the Café Gazebo, in the jungle giving the feeling of floating above the forest. The resort’s wellness-oriented concept, which combines traditional Balinese healing practices with the latest approaches to health and well-being, further complements the combination of privacy and luxury.
