World Cancer Day: Seychelles Stands United with the Global Community

Seychelles marked the day with the rest of the world on 4 February 2026 to commemorate World Cancer Day, an initiative that seeks to raise awareness about cancer, its early detection, and those affected by the disease. The theme of the day this year is “United by Unique,” which seeks to show the unity in the fight against cancer while noting that every individual’s experience with cancer is unique.

The Ministry of Health in Seychelles marked the day with messages of solidarity in the fight against cancer, noting that “cancer affects all of us—but together we are stronger than cancer.” The ministry urged people to make healthy lifestyle choices, undergo screening, and support patients.

The day was also characterized by local events. The Cancer Concern Association Seychelles organized the annual church mass, where the community came together to pay tribute to those who have been affected by cancer and to emphasize the importance of awareness and early detection.

World Cancer Day is commemorated annually on February 4, and it is organized by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), which offers an opportunity to unite against cancer and to call for fair access to cancer care worldwide

In Seychelles, the celebration of World Cancer Day is in line with the current health priorities, such as the improvement of preventive care and screening programs, as well as the reduction of non-communicable diseases. The health sector has reaffirmed its commitment to fighting cancer.
