Russia Sends Five Tonnes of Aid to Seychelles

The Russian Federation handed over a humanitarian aid package to Seychelles yesterday, with Ambassador Artem Kozhin presenting the consignment to Finance Minister Pierre Laporte at the Seychelles Trading Company (STC) headquarters.

The donation around five tonnes in total - includes vegetable oil, sugar, canned meat, pasta, medicines and fertilisers. Russia said the gesture was driven by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and the knock-on risks it poses to small island states like Seychelles, which rely heavily on imports.

The handover ceremony was brief. Kozhin outlined the contents of the package before formally handing it to Laporte, who received it on behalf of the government.

Moscow framed the donation as support for national resilience - helping Seychelles keep critical stocks in reserve rather than responding to any immediate shortage on the islands
