Hôtel Lulu Paris Opens 27 Rooms Near Luxembourg Gardens

A new boutique hotel has opened in Paris, just a short walk from the Jardin du Luxembourg, Saint-Germain-des-Prés and the Latin Quarter. 

LULU is a new Parisian and artistic diminutive the hotel decribes, named Hôtel Lulu for the nearby Luxembourg Gardens. It is a new way to experience the capital. 

Located on a street known for its historic cafés, bookshops and galleries, guests will be within easy reach of some of the French capital’s most recognisable locations. 

Retro Design Meets Modernist Interiors 

Lulu mixes raw architectural materials with a curated selection of vintage furniture and design pieces. 

The interior spaces feature brushed stainless steel, raw concrete, clean lines and soft lighting to create a restrained modernist feel. This is then brought to life with the addition of carefully chosen vintage furnishings, pieces and photographs along with a family library. 

Design pieces by Verner Panton, Tommaso Barbi, Florian Schulz and Curtis Jere are mixed with vintage objects, photographs and family books; a portrait shot by Manolo Campion for Vogue and historic château doors complete the eclectic mix. Leopard-print carpets are also used in the corridors of the hotel, creating a playful contrast with the otherwise minimalist architecture. 

27 Rooftop Rooms with a View of Paris 

However, the 27 rooms are a little cosier, with thick carpets, off-white walls, linen curtains and natural materials helping to soften the space and frame views of the Paris rooftops, while the communal areas of the hotel are a little more stripped back in aesthetic. 

As a boutique hotel, rooms differ in size and layout throughout the building, adding to a sense of individuality. Also in the attic is an old sign found during renovations which serves as a reminder of the building’s time as the Hôtel de Nice. 

Mediterranean Bathroom Designs 

One of the most striking design contrasts throughout the hotel is found in the bathrooms, which are inspired by Mediterranean swimming pools. 

Pink, green and blue mosaics run through the walls and floors, offering a striking alternative to the wider hotel’s minimalist aesthetic. 

The hotel has turned the spaces, often utilitarian in function, into a design statement with the use of brightly tiled walls and floors. 

Coffee Shop by Day, Piano Bar by Nite 

A traditional hotel may have a restaurant or bar on the ground floor, but the ground floor of Hôtel Lulu is designed to change depending on the time of day. 

The breakfast at the hotel, the coffee in the afternoon or the piano bar in the evening are open to the residents and the locals alike. A glass-roofed winter garden allows natural light to flood the space, while a fireplace, piano, books and open seating areas are designed to bring the outside in, creating a sense of a local neighbourhood. 

The idea behind the concept is hoped to attract locals for coffee during the day as well as the guests staying in the hotel’s 27 rooms. 

A Boutique Hotel Inspired by Modern Paris 

Lulu is one of a growing number of boutique hotels in Paris that has decided to place its design, character and local identity at the core of the hotel experience. The property prefers to showcase its own personality rather than the standardised formula of a big hotel group.
